Full Job Description

StarMed Healthcare is looking for an organized and experienced Medical Coding Specialist responsible for the coding of routine to complex physician charges and patient data to ensure that claims are submitted to insurance payors in the most compliant, efficient, and expeditious manner possible.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and auditing charts for accuracy and proper codes
  • Generate reports for providers
  • Meet with providers to review proper coding
  • Assist staff with general questions regarding coding
  • Codes all charges
  • Consults with medical providers to clarify missing or inadequate record information and to determine appropriate diagnostic and procedure codes. Provides thorough, timely and accurate review of ICD10 and/or CPT code assignments with physician
  • Reviews charges including Evaluation and Management levels
  • Ensures the accuracy of data input
  • Compile reports, maintain A/R data
  • Meets established quality and productivity standards
  • Stays abreast of coding principles and regulatory guidelines related to outpatient coding
  • Other general office duties as assigned by Practice Supervisor

Requirements

  • Coding Certification required
  • eClinicalWorks experience is a plus
  • Ability to speak Spanish is a plus
  • 2-3 years of coding experience within a Primary and/or Urgent care
  • Experience working with physicians
  • Skill in gathering, analyzing, and evaluating data
  • Thorough knowledge of medical coding, CPT, ICD-9 Codes,ICD-10, & modifiers
  • Knowledge of procedure coding practices, rules and industry standards
  • Knowledge of patient account policies and practices of the clinic
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize conflicting needs; handle matters expeditiously, proactively, and follow-through on projects to successful completion, often with deadline pressures
  • Ability to effectively communicate with various levels of staff and customers
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong facilitation and influencing skills; confident and articulate
  • Must be proficient in Word & Excel
  • Analytical mindset with great attention to detail
  • Team player attitude, energetic, able to multitask, with a focus on excellent customer service are key
  • Must be a self-starter with strong organizational skills and a strong desire for professional growth
  • Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

Education and Experience

  • ICD-10: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Medical coding: 1 year (Preferred)
